Last day of summer in the city.

* Today is the last day of summer, so of course the best way to spend it for me, would be in NYC. I went to the crazy, but touristy, South Street Seaport and Battery Park. People were everywhere and the weather was perfect. On the way to the subway I strolled down to the World Trade Center Site and was surprised at the limited view one has down there. I wanted to go to St. Paul's Chapel, but I got there five minutes after they closed. Overall, this was an excellent summer and I hope that 2009 is even better.

Somerset Patriots vs. Bridgeport Bluefish

* Tonight I went to see the Somerset Patriots defeat the Bridgeport Bluefish in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Today was "bring your dog to the ballpark day" and there were a lot of greyhounds. Although, this was my first visit to the stadium, I am sure it will not be my last. The Patriots crushed the Bluefish, which may be why the game lasted more than three hours. Thank God, hot dogs were only $1.00 each and we had great seats. Overall, an awesome day for a ball game!

Sonic Youth @ McCarren Park Pool

* I went to see Sonic Youth at McCarren Park Pool tonight. This is suppose to be the last music event at the pool and what a way to end. The weather was perfect, looked like rain but it held out and the band played for over 1 1/2 hours. Sonic Youth never disappoint and tonight they even played some new songs, which was an added bonus. An overall great show!

Pineapple Express

*I went to see Pineapple Express last night. A funny movie, with more action scenes then I expected. This is not your typical stoner movie. Don't get me wrong, they smoke a lot of weed, but there is an actual plot line. A definite must see before the summer ends.

Just another night in NYC

* Tonight I went to the American Folk Art Museum to see the Henry Darger exhibit, DARGERISM: CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS AND HENRY DARGER. The museum features works by Amy Cutler, Henry Darger, Jefferson Friedman, Anthony Goicolea, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Yun-Fei Ji, Justine Kurland, Justin Lieberman, Robyn O'Neil, Grayson Perry, Paula Rego, and Michael St. John. 

* I later headed downtown to the Housing Works Bookstore Café (126 Crosby Street (one block east of Broadway between Houston and Prince) where ZZ Packer  introduced "New Stories from the South 2008," a collection of short stories that she is a guest editor for. Two authors in the anthology read and ZZ introduced them and signed copies of the book. Overall, a very interesting evening in NYC.

Aug. 27th NIN @ the IZOD Center

* I went to see Nine Inch Nails last night and WOW! I didn't think they would be able to top the last show I went to @ PNC last year, but they not only beat it, they played for over two hours. The light show was fascinating and the sound was unbelievable. A great night overall and if you haven't seen them live, you need to run out and get tickets now. 

Does It Offend You, Yeah? opened for NIN and were not well received. They reminded me of early 90's industrial rock. They weren't as bad as people were saying, but I rarely love NIN opening acts, so I wasn't expecting much.
